Provincial Grand Masters

The Grand Lodge of Scotland is the overall governing body over all Masonic Lodges based in Scotland. They also oversee the operation of some lodges based overseas who applied to the Grand Lodge of Scotland for a Charter to practice Freemasonry.

To assist Grand Lodge in ensuring that all lodges comply with the Rules and Regulations (Constitution) agreed by Grand Lodge, Scotland has been divided up into different districts known as Provinces. The lodges situated in each individual Province elect a Provincial Grand Master from one of these lodges to serve a 5 year term as Provincial Grand Master. He will appoint a small team of office bearers to visit each lodge within his Province to ensure they adhere to the Constitution of the Order and report back to Grand Lodge accordingly.

Overseas Lodges are divided into Districts and are governed by District Grand Masters.

Lodge St. John Fisherrow No 112 has had the privilege of having two of its Past Masters appointed to this prestigious office - namely George Laing Bishop and Robert Reid Law. The latter being the current Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Midlothian.  Although Musselburgh was relocated to the County of East Lothian in 1974 this was for reshaping political constituencies only. Lodge St. John Fisherrow remained within the Province of Midlothian for Masonic Governance.

A brief resume of the Masonic careers of these two Provincial Grand Masters is attached.
